Anthony M Megna

Jun 30, 1932 — Jun 30, 2026

Franklin, WI

Anthony “Tony” Michael Megna, 94, of Franklin, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on the evening of his 94th birthday. Throughout his final day, Tony was surrounded by the love of family and friends; completing a beautiful life with a joyful celebration filled with song, laughter, cake and the company of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren - so fitting for a life so richly lived and deeply loved.

Born on June 30, 1932, to Fillipo and Angelina (Gumina) Megna in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Tony was raised with deep faith, family, humility and perseverance. He truly understood the meaning of citizenship and service. A proud U.S. Army veteran of the 62nd Battalion during the Korean War, he was deeply honored by his November 2018 Stars and Stripes Honor Flight. Tony truly understood what it meant to be an American. His actions spoke louder than his words and he lived by that belief every day.

Tony devoted his free time to many causes and always said “yes” when he could help

someone in need. He lived a life of service, and his example showed others the

meaning of giving back. His kindness and generosity will continue to inspire others for

years to come. We are certain he already has his hand raised, ready to help.

Tony did his greatest work in the City of Franklin, which recognized him earlier this year with the dedication of “Tony Megna Park home of Lake Ernie.” His decades of civic dedication included serving on the Franklin School Board and the Planning Commission and was a founding member of the 4th of July Committee—where his pride and joy was handing out ice cream and coordinating the area’s top fireworks displays. Passionate about youth sports, he helped found the Franklin Firemen’s Girls’ Softball League and spent years coaching both softball and baseball. Tony also volunteered extensively across Greater Milwaukee for St. Vincent de Paul, Festa Italiana, the Knights of Columbus, and most recently, Blue Lotus.

Tony was an electrician by trade and a proud member of IBEW Local 494, Milwaukee. Working primarily in residential service, Tony was highly sought after by residential clients who requested him by name. After retiring, he volunteered with other retirees to provide free electrical work for the Marion Center and other charitable

organizations. He served as president of the Local 494 Retirees’ Club for several years and received the 494 Challenge Coin in September 2023 for his exceptional service.

Outside of his career as an electrician, he enjoyed square dancing with Barbara for many years. In retirement, he enjoyed his annual Canadian fishing trips, golf, gardening, and meticulously manicuring his lawn. He also traveled across the United States and Europe several times which included visiting family in Sicily.

Tony cared deeply for those he loved and treasured the time he spent with family and friends. He faithfully gathered with friends at the First Friday prayer group. He was also part of a coffee group that frequents McDonald’s and Festival Foods. In addition, they went on several annual, regional day trips and even vacations. He looked forward to seeing his buddies, even in his final days.

His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the community he helped build, and the countless lives he touched through his quiet acts of kindness and service. Thank you for showing us how to live with humility, integrity, generosity, and purpose. You inspired us all for generations to come. We love you. We will miss you.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara, whom he missed deeply over the last three years, and by all of his 11 brothers and sisters. He is lovingly survived by his four children: Carol (Dan) Grundahl, David (Debbie) Megna, Elmer (Kelly) Megna, and Faith Megna. He was a loving grandpa to: Michael (Jami) Megna; Jordan, Alex, and Ben Megna; Alyssa (Sean) Sutton; and Samantha and Anna Megna. He was also a proud great grandpa to: Vanessa, Norah, and Olivia Megna; and Finn Sutton. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews who knew him simply as “Uncle Tony.”

A special thanks to: Home Instead; especially Emilee, Sherri, Lupe, Fay, Anaiya and Judy, who gave him comfort, care and respect over the last several months that the family appreciated. Also, the dedicated doctors and nurses of Clement J. Zablocki VA Hospital (including Dr. Sanghani). In addition, long-time Xaverian and family friend, Father Dominic and Wayne Ramus, a St. Mary Pastoral Care Minister who hand-delivered eucharist and prayed with Tony on Sundays.
