Antonina 'Toni' Gignac

Antonina, "Toni" Gignac, age 95, one week shy of 96 years old, passed away on Saturday, August 4th at Rosewood Manor, Delavan WI. She was born on August 11, 1922 in San Francisco, California to Sabastino and Francisa (Leona) Scardacci. Her parents were both from Italy. She was lovingly named Toni, by her late husband, Alfred Gignac, whom she married on January 3rd, 1945 in Demeu Colorado. She was known as "Nina" to her family in California. She and her husband raised one son, the late Alan "Lanny" James Gignac. She treasured being a wife and mother to Lanny and she loved to speak of the presence of "God Almighty" in nature, especially in her garden at her home in McHenry. She was always thankful for her vegetables providing food for her and as gifts from God. Toni will be remembered for her tremendous vegetable gardening abilities and the great care she gave to them and her flowers. She was especially proud of her "love" plant which was a type of flowering cactus her beloved late husband, Al gave to her. Toni enjoyed many years as a senior helper at Edgebrook School. She was a long-time member of The Church of Holy Apostles, and the Senior Centers and enjoyed many events with both. She is survived by nephews and nieces, a goddaughter, and close friends who she loved as family. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son; and was the last remaining of her 3 brothers and 1 sister. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Church of Holy Apostles (5211 Bull Valley Rd, McHenry, IL 60050) from 10 to 11 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park.
