Betty Jane Bitner, age 92, died peacefully at home in Lake Geneva, WI on Monday, May 14, 2018. Betty was born on July 3, 1925 in Woodstock, IL, the daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Bris) Miller. Much loved wife, mother and grandmother, Betty was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Elton Bitner. She is survived by her sons Robert Scott (Janine) Bitner, Bruce (Julie) Bitner and daughter Barbara (Jeff) Irvin; grandchildren Tessa (Nick) Payne, David (Kate) Bitner, Brian (Christa Cotton) Bitner, Kyle Irvin and Ryan Irvin; and great-grandson Paxton Payne. Betty grew up in Mooseheart, IL and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1952, where she met her husband, Bob. After graduation, Betty worked as a Human Resources manager in Chicago and later as Executive Assistant to U.S. Congressman Robert McClory and Blackburn College Presidents, Dr. Glenn McConagha and Dr. John Alberti. Betty and Bob married on July 5, 1952 in Racine, WI and enjoyed a 45-year marriage, living in Chicago, Milwaukee and Barrington, IL before moving to Litchfield, IL in 1972 where they lived together until Bob passed away in 1996. Betty moved to Lake Geneva, WI in 1999 where she became an active member of the community. Betty loved her family, classical music, reading and playing bridge. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and volunteered at the Lake Geneva Library and Aurora Health Center. Her greatest gifts were her ability to connect with others, her positive spirit, tenacity and contagious sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by many. A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Steinke-Lazarczyk Funeral Home (515 Center Street, Lake Geneva) from 1 to 3 p.m. with a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Betty Bitner to the Lake Geneva Public Library (918 West Main Street, Lake Geneva, WI 53147; ATTN: Emily Kornak).
