David Lee Brueggeman of Westshire Farms in Delavan, Wisconsin was called Home early Wednesday morning, September 10,2014, with his beloved wife, Sandra, by his side, after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). David was born in Milwaukee on January 17, 1938, son of the late Reverend Hubert G. and Ruby E. (nee Froemming) Brueggemann. He grew up as a Lutheran minister's son and resided most of his youth at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, WI. David went to Concordia College High School and found the love of his life while at church youth group. On June 27,1964 David married his wife,Sandra (nee Loewe), and together they raised their family of four in Elkhorn,Wisconsin. David was a postal carrier in Milwaukee for 30 years and also ushered ball games at County Stadium. Following his retirement he drove medical vans and worked at George Williams golf course. He had many hobbies including freelance writing articles for handicapping horse racing for national magazines, raising Borzoi's and Checkered Giant rabbits, golfing and most importantly reading books to his grandchildren and spending time with family. David leaves behind his wife, Sandra, and loving children Joseph (Lynn) Brueggemann of Wauwatosa, Wi and Philip (Brenda) Brueggemann of Elkhorn. He is also survived by his sister Joan (Skokie, IL), brothers Dan (Milwaukee) and John (Beaver Dam), grandchildren Brianna, Trevor, Gavin, Matthew and Nicholas,step-grandchildren Samantha, Megan and Jacob Schneider and countless number of nieces, nephews, family, friends and former co-workers. He has left us to join his father, mother and other friends and relatives who have gone before him. A casual memorial gathering will be held from 4 to 6:30pm on Thursday, Sept. 18,2014 at the Betzer Funeral Home , 118 S. 2nd. St., Delavan, WI 53115. Memorials appreciated to the ALS Association. We knew ALS was unbeatable in battle but we're so thankful for the time we had with you Dad and that you were able to be here so we could all celebrate your 50th wedding anniversary with Mom.
