Delbert “Del” Vern Wampner, age 88, of Genoa City, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family at his home on Friday, March 29, 2024.
Del was born on June 25, 1935, to the late Edith (nee Cofelt) and Tracy Wampner. He was united in marriage to Viola “Betty” Elizabeth (nee McCarrel) in Indiana and the two spent many happy years together raising their family.
Del is survived by his loving wife, Betty Wampner; children Chris (Julie) Wampner, Cindy Wampner, the late Delbert “Butch” E. Wampner, and Corinna (Bill) Carroll; grandchildren Jason (Ashley) Wampner, Jennifer (Travis) Watson, Windsor (Faye) Wampner, Serena (Jason) Kittrell, Cassie (Jeremy) Menke-Fields, Cory (Amanda) Menke, Savannah (Joe) Walsh, Bryon (Mickie) Wampner, Brandon (Hannah) Wampner, Rob (Amanda) Wampner, Bill Carroll, and Elizabeth Carroll; great-grandchildren Aniston, Emerie, Logan, Alex, Zane, Chase, Kyler, Aly, Teague, Murphy, Lorelai, Jake, and Adelynn; siblings Virginia and Lois; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many close friends- he will be dearly missed. Preceded in death by his parents, Tracy and Edith Wampner; siblings Ellawione “Winnie”, Willis, Elwood, Betty, Arretta, Herman, Bertha, Harvey, and Shirley; and son Delbert “Butch” Wampner.
Del had a lifelong passion for showing and breeding rabbits which he passed down to his children and grandchildren. He was instrumental in the breeding of American Sable rabbits and a member of the American Sable Association. He was additionally granted an honorable lifetime membership with the Wisconsin State Rabbit Breeders Association (WSRBA), and a lifetime membership with the National Californian Specialty Rabbit Club. Alongside breeding, Del served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as rooting for the Chicago Cubs.
A celebration of life will be held at Lazarczyk Family Funeral Homes (515 Center Street, Lake Geneva, WI 53147) on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 1 – 2:30 p.m. with a service held at 2:30 p.m., officiated by Pastor Steve Ross. Military honors to follow service. Private interment will be held at a later date.
