Eugene Leroy 'Babe' Henry

Eugene L." Babe" Henry 90 a lifelong resident of Lake Geneva died Saturday January 25 at his home. Babe was born May 12 1923 in the same house, the son of Nelson and Evelyn Ackley Henry . Babe was united in marriage to the love of his life Lorraine B. Gleason on September 26 1944 in Lake Geneva WI . She preceded him in death on April 10 2010. Babe was a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union local #28 for 50 years. He served in the US Navy in WWII from 1943 to 1947 and the USNR until 1952 . He was very proud of his service to his Country. Babe was an avid sportsman and spent countless hours fishing on Geneva Lake. His knowledge of the lake was unsurpassed learning it from his father Nelson. Babe also enjoyed deer hunting. Surviving are daughter, Elizabeth Howes, Lake Geneva, WI, sisters, Norma Steltenphol, Lake Geneva, WI, and Patricia Peyer, Palatka, FL, 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Preceded in death by his parents, daughters, Diane Reiff, twin, Vivian and Valerie, sister, Larraine Sagert and brothers, Donald and John Henry. A Celebration of Babe's life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday Feb. 1, 2014 at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Moller-Gunderson officiating with full Military Rites. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Steinke Funeral Home & Cremation Services are assisting the family with the arrangements.
