Florette Rose Engel passed away peacefully on July 10, 2017, at Vintage on the Ponds in Delavan, where she had resided for the last 6 years. Florette was born in Milwaukee on November 23, 1929, to Stanley and Mary (Drankiewicz) Wilson. She spent her early years in Burlington where she graduated from St. John's Lutheran Grade School and Burlington High School. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was named Queen of the Demolay Ball. In 1972 she married Alfred Engel in Chicago, and resided there until 1979, at which time they purchased a home in Delavan. She and her husband were active members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Delavan. After Alfred passed away in 1997, Florette volunteered her time as a Sunday school teacher and a reading mentor for the children at Our Redeemer, and she also volunteered at Vintage on the Ponds. Florette loved music and dancing, shopping, good food and cocktails, and socializing with friends. But most important to her was her family. Her son, Douglas Hopkins, passed away in 1997, and she is survived by her two daughters, Roxanne Middleton and Mimi Leffelman, as well as six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a loving heart, unwavering faith and a zest for life til the very end. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Services are 5pm Friday, July 14, 2017 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, friends may call one hour prior to services. Betzer Funeral Home is serving the family.
