Genevieve "Jeanne" Bliss, 82, of Delavan, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully shortly after midnight on June 2, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Jeanne was born on May 17, 1944, in Goodman, Wisconsin, to Theodore Francis Berch and Helen Theresa Danielczak of Armstrong Creek. She grew up alongside her siblings Teddy, Evie, and Ray, where she developed the strength, resilience, and work ethic that would define her life. Raised on a farm, Jeanne was capable of any task that needed to be done and never hesitated to lend a hand. Those qualities remained with her throughout her life and became hallmarks of the remarkable woman she would become.
Jeanne met the love of her life, David Russell Bliss, through her older brother Teddy while David was home on leave from the Army. The two were married on November 9, 1963, beginning a partnership that would span more than five decades. Their marriage was built on devotion, mutual respect, hard work, and unwavering support for one another. David adored Jeanne completely and happily accompanied her on countless quilting shop excursions and adventures throughout Wisconsin, Colorado, Florida and beyond. David preceded her in death on October 19, 2019, after nearly 56 years of marriage.
Together, Jeanne and David raised two sons, Brian and James, and built a life centered on family, generosity, and dedication. While David operated his machine shop, Jeanne worked tirelessly both at home and alongside him when needed. As a family, they cherished weekend trips to their cabin in Central Wisconsin, creating memories filled with laughter, adventure, and togetherness.
Jeanne was an extraordinary woman—strong, fiercely independent, intelligent, and endlessly creative. She possessed a natural curiosity about the world and a spirit of adventure that never diminished. A lifelong learner and wanderer at heart, she embraced every opportunity to explore, whether through travel, nature, books, or the pursuit of new skills.
An award-winning quilter and quilting educator, Jeanne shared her talents generously with others. Through her artistry, patience, and willingness to teach, she inspired countless people and formed friendships wherever she went. Her quilts reflected not only exceptional craftsmanship but also the warmth and care she poured into everything she created.
Jeanne was also a gifted gardener, landscaper, naturalist, and bird watcher who found joy and peace outdoors. She had an eye for beauty, a deep appreciation for nature, and an energy that seemed limitless. Even later in life, she could easily walk miles in a day and remained actively engaged with the world around her.
Family was the foundation of Jeanne's life and the guiding force behind every important decision she made. She was a loving mother who gave of herself endlessly and took immense pride in her sons. Above all, she treasured her grandchildren, Andrew and Nadine. Jeanne was a deeply involved grandmother who delighted in sharing adventures, creating imaginative projects, exploring nature, and simply spending time together. She celebrated every achievement, offered unwavering encouragement, and filled their lives with love, wisdom, creativity, and joyful memories that will endure forever.
Jeanne was also a devoted daughter who lovingly cared for her mother, Helen, after the passing of her father. She was always willing to help others, often putting their needs before her own. Her kindness, intelligence, generosity, and willingness to serve made her a friend to all who knew her.
Jeanne is survived by her sons, Brian Bliss and James Bliss; her beloved grandchildren, Andrew Bliss and Nadine Bliss; her siblings, Teddy Berch, Evie, and Raymond Berch; and many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Russell Bliss; her parents, Theodore Francis Berch and Helen Theresa Danielczak; and all those who welcomed her home.
Jeanne lived a life defined by love, hard work, creativity, curiosity, and service to others. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the friendships she cultivated, the students she inspired, and the beauty she created throughout her life. She will be remembered for her strength, her generosity, her adventurous spirit, and the countless lives she touched.
A private Celebration of Life will be held by the family. Jeanne will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, David, at Spring Grove Cemetery.
Though deeply missed, Jeanne's life remains a lasting example of how fully and beautifully a life can be lived.
