Gladys Mae Cunningham of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin passed away on January 20, 2022, at age 100. She was born to the late Bernhard and Ella Hellman on August 19, 1921. Gladys attended elementary and High School in Paullina, Iowa, graduating at 16 years of age. She attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. Following college, Gladys was a schoolteacher in Missouri Valley, Iowa, moved to Chicago to become a flight attendant for United Airlines. From there she joined The Marshall Field's Company as the Executive Secretary. Gladys married William Maxwell Cunningham in 1951. They resided in Skokie and Deerfield Illinois, until moving to Lake Geneva in 1972. Gladys was instrumental in founding Kings Way Estates in Zion, Illinois along with her husband in the early 1960's. Gladys continued to operate the business for many years after the death of her husband. Gladys was a very involved member of Linn Presbyterian Church for nearly 50 years. She sang in the choir, ran the cash box for the annual rummage sales, served as a Deacon and supported many church capital improvement projects. Specifically, Gladys led successful campaigns to air condition the sanctuary and upgrade the kitchen. Gladys loved playing bridge and assembled a core group of friends that played weekly bridge games with her for decades. Gladys loved Geneva Lake, sharing its beauty with others. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband William M. Cunningham and her son William Mark Cunningham. Gladys is survived by her son Robert (Beth) L. Cunningham; grandchildren Lauren (Derrick Rogers) Cunningham, Michael (Mary Lauren Bagwell) Cunningham, and Linnea (Louie) DiBerardino; and great grandchildren Louis and Isla DiBerardino.
