Gordon J. Berg, 74, of Delavan, WI Passed away at St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI on Thursday October 19, 2017, after an 8 year battle with cancer. Gordon was married to Josephine (Jo) October 17, 1964. His mother-in-law's first question for him was, "Do you have a job?" His answer was no and he was shown the door. Never-the-less, he won Jo's heart and her mother's heart. She might not have known that the hard-working man he grew to be did once paint around the pictures in a hallway instead of taking them down, but she was right in the end when she said to Jo, "You married a good man." He will be dearly missed after 53 years of marriage. Gordon was preceded by his mother and father, Jessie and Gordon Sr. He is survived by his wife, three sisters, four daughters, eleven grandchildren, his dog Henry, and a wild bunch of nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones who were with him in his final hours. Gordon's humor was with him to the end as well. As his family confronted his final hours, he woke and looked about and asked, "Are we having a party or something?" Gordon shared many hours of joy fishing, bottle collecting, hunting, antiquing, junking, gardening, and watching classic slapstick comedy with his many friends. He was a story teller and a story. Few people have made as much mischief as Gordon. They ranged from "The Great Hamster Escapade" to "The Mystery of the Thousand Dollar Fire." There were bail-outs from jail, adventures in the dark underbelly of Chicago where he grew up, lived, and worked for much of his life, exploding rocks, beechnut wars, television drops, and chasing down cops with brooms. Gordon's service will be a memorial to the story that was his life, the fierce joy of a life lived fully, the father and husband and friend, the heart of family. Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the Steinke-Lazarczyk Funeral Home, Lake Geneva, WI with Pastor Bob Kamps officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to time of Services. Please join us to share in Gordon's stories and to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Visitation Sunday, October 22nd, 2017 2:00pm - 4:00pmService Information Sunday, October 22nd, 2017 4:00pm
