Gordon “Gordie” C. Daniel, Fond du Lac and formerly of Wauwatosa, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 26, 2026, following a brief illness.
Gordie was born to Charles and Verona (Arndorfer) Daniel on April 13, 1933 in Beaver Dam. The family later moved to Marshfield where Gordon graduated from Columbus High School in 1951.
Gordon attended Marquette University until 1953, when he was drafted by the Army. He served 2 years at Ft. Bliss, Texas, and the Nike Base in New Jersey. He then had several part time gigs before landing a job at IBM, where he worked as a dedicated employee for 36 years.
He married Margaret A. Newman on Jan. 6, 1963 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Milwaukee. Their only child, Jean, was born in 1967. The family made Wauwatosa their home, where Gordie was active at church and in the dartball league. In 2019, Gordon moved to Fond du Lac to be closer to family, three years after Marge passed away on their 53rd wedding anniversary after a long cancer battle.
Gordie enjoyed 6 years of independent living at The Meadows of Fond du Lac. He attended mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also regularly prayed in the Adoration chapel there. He loved being Catholic and never wavered in his faith. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 524 and the Sacred Heart First Friday Club. In 2025, he began to suffer from several health issues and moved to The Manor at The Meadows, where he received great care, just as he had at The Meadows. Despite many challenges, Gordie almost never complained.
His life had many trials--he lost his dad at a young age, was sole caregiver for many years for his wife during her cancer treatments, and had his own battles with cancer. He always added humor as well as sarcasm to every day, a trait that passed on to his kin.
He loved being a part of his grandsons’ lives, from sitting in the cold bleachers for hockey games and their antics on the ice, to watching them receive the sacraments at church, to gathering for birthdays and holidays and playing games—kicking everyone’s butt at bags.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his daughter, Jean (Mark) Schram, Fond du Lac; grandsons: Travis (Kelsie Beck) Schram, Lamartine, and Tyler (Lauren) Schram, Green Bay; grandpups, Lexi and Viper; nieces: Carol (John) Sudmeier, Linda (Lee) Smith; Debbie (Doug) Petrie and Donna (Paul) Roszak; nephews: Dave (Marion) Daniel, Jim (Fran) Daniel, Charlie (Linda) Smith, Randy (Julie) Smith; and Pat Brandner; 15 great nephews;10 great nieces; 19 great-great nephews and nieces; and many other friends and relatives.
In addition to his parents, Gordie was predeceased by his wife; siblings and their spouses: Eunice (William) Ptaschinski, Adel (Tim) Smith; and Eugene ( Virginia) Daniel; sister-in-law Dorothy (Donald) Smetana; brother-in-law, John Newman; niece, Barb Brandner; nephew, Richard (Joyce) Ptaschinski; one great nephew; and one great niece.
