Harriett J Lagerlof (Marlow) ,age 93, was a long time resident of Lake Geneva, WI. She passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024.
She was born on October 21, 1931 in King City MO. She had a very musical family and as a young girl, she and her sisters formed a trio. The “Marlow Sisters” sang at local shows, often helping to sell war bonds during WWII. Their mother Lucille often accompanied them on the piano.
Harriett graduated from Tarkio College with a music education degree. She met her husband, Paul, a Northwestern student, while working at George Williams College Camp in Williams Bay WI. They married in December 1954 and soon moved to Long Beach, CA, when Paul received his US Coast Guard appointment. At the close of the Korean War, Paul and Harriett moved to Oak Park, IL and then to Elmhurst, IL, where they raised their son and two daughters.
Throughout her life, Harriett taught music in Missouri, California, Illinois and Wisconsin. A favorite job was teaching kindergarten through 8th grade in nearby Oak Brook IL. Her passion for piano, singing, and musical performances made her a fun teacher to many students who never forgot their favorite teacher, Mrs Lagerlof! She taught that music was a key to happiness!
In their retirement, Harriett and Paul moved to Lake Geneva and spent their winters in Apache junction, AZ. Paul passed away this February, 10 months before their 70th Anniversary. Harriett suffered from a broken heart, missing her husband of almost 70 years. They are now reunited again in eternal peace. As a mother, she provided unwavering Love and support. She valued a simple life, and taught virtues silently by exemplifying them and not lecturing them. She believed in hard work, humility, respect for all and forgiveness.
