Janesville

Jack Malin, a longtime resident of Janesville, WI passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 28, 2025. Known for his smile, kind demeanor, positive attitude and willingness to lend a hand, Jack moved to Elm Grove, WI to spend his final years close to family.

Jack was born in Friendship, WI in 1935 to Clifford Bissel Malin and Jeanne Luella (Coulter) Malin. The family moved to Iowa for a few years, returning to Adams-Friendship after the passing of his father. It was there that he spotted Joan Loken riding her bike past his house. The two of them dated and attended dances throughout high school and college, eventually marrying in 1958. Joan, who passed away in September 2022, was truly the love of his life.

He attended UW-Whitewater and received a BS in Business Administration and Accounting. He worked for General Motors (1959-1967), E.W. Rost & Son, Inc. (1967-1985) and the Wisconsin Council of the Blind (1986-1998) as the first sighted Executive Director of the organization. Along with Joan, he was involved in the Janesville community – Janesville YMCA and Y’s Men’s Club; Friends of the Hedberg Library, United Arts Alliance, Janesville Presents, and Cargill United Methodist Church – often acting as treasurer and doing bookkeeping.

Jack and Joan raised two children, Jeff Malin (Pam) of DePere, WI and Sara Everts (Gregg) of West Allis, WI. His four grandkids - Jessica Everts (Andrew Barth), Jarod Everts, Loken Malin (Allie Schultz) and Evan Malin – were his pride and joy. The family enjoyed many annual trips to Door County and Eagle River, to “escape” from everyday life and be together.

Memorials in his honor can be made to The Hedberg Public Library Foundation 316 S. Main St. Janesville, WI 53545 ATTN: Rene Bue or the Janesville Performing Arts Center 408 S. Main St. Janesville, WI 53545.

Jack’s final resting place is back home, at Mt. Repose Cemetery in Friendship, WI. The family plans to hold a private remembrance of his life.

The family extends their gratitude to his caregivers (Heritage Elm Grove and Brighton Hospice during his final years and days.
