Jeanne M Johnson

Jeanne Johnson, 87 of Delavan Wisconsin died Saturday at Golden Years Retirement Village in Walworth. She was an extraordinary daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Jeanne grew up on the west side of Chicago with her 5 brothers and sisters raised by her Irish Catholic parents. She carried her faith the rest of her life as a person devoted to the church wherever she lived. Married to Harold in 1948, they soon settled in Itasca, IL. where their family grew to seven children. She enjoyed a reputation of being an extraordinary neighbor as she raised her 3 sons and 4 daughters. She and her husband were very involved with St. Peter's Parish and were integral to the growth of the Cursillo movement and social justice issues. She was also a long time Girl Scout leader where her daughters were participants In 1971 Jeanne and Harold moved to Delavan and purchased Reed's Marine. For over forty years she was the bookkeeper and wore many hats to keep the business afloat. Jeanne became a pillar of St. Andrew's church, joining many groups and putting in countless hours of volunteering. She very much enjoyed her Bible Study, Book Club, TOPS and Red Hat groups. Jeanne cherished her many friends she made in all of her groups and with her fellow residents and staff at Golden Years. Jeanne had a zest for life and always enjoyed a good time. She especially enjoyed travel, games and new experiences. After retirement she was able to frequently travel both with her Travel Club and her children across the country and as far as Europe and Africa. All of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren learned the love of playing cards from her and the joy of betting nickels in hoping for a jackpot. Never losing her enthusiasm for a thrill she held her great grandchildren on her lap as they careened down water slides. Jeanne will be greatly missed by many; most especially her sisters to whom she was very close.Jeanne is survived by her seven children, Tom (Mary) Johnson of Delavan, Nancy (Mike Reardon)Schwider of Chicago, Rick (Amy) Johnson of Green Bay, Terry (Bruce) Bailey of Lake Geneva,WI , Susan (Trish) Johnson of Denver, Co.Steve (Tammy)Johnson of Madison and Mary Pat (Kathy) Byrn of Minn. Minn. 19 Grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Helen, Marianne and Kathy; 1 brother, Jack. She is preceded in death by her husband, her infant daughter, Debbie, her brother Michael and her grandson Drew.
