John Martin Sorg

John Martin Sorg, 84 years of age and longtime resident of Darien, Wisconsin, passed away on February 18, 2025.

John was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 1, 1940, to the late Anna Marie (nee Sumiec) and Andrew Sorg. He was united in marriage to the late Shirley (née Clowes) Sorg in May of 1966. The two spent many beautiful years together until her passing in November of 2021.

A well-known community member, John dedicated his life to his family as well as the family business, Sorg Farm Packing, which was established in 1942. In his high school years, John was captain of the football team, playing both center and defense, and putting the first ever trophy in Delavan-Darien High School. Nicknamed by his teammates “The Stump” or “Ogre”, John received a special telegram from The Green Bay Packers in the 1950’s, congratulating him on four years of undefeated games. He was even given the opportunity to play for the Delavan Red Devils, but turned down the spot to instead work at the Family Farm after graduation. John and his football buddies (as well as other classmates) still kept in touch frequently, fishing in Canada or simply reminiscing about the old days. An incredibly hard worker, John was known as the “Smiling Sorg” at the family business and ready to help anyone, anytime, at the drop of a hat. A family man with many friends, John enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing pool, keeping bees (of which he was rightfully proud), and spending time with loved ones. Although his legacy will continue to live on, John will be missed by many.

John is survived by his sons, John, Mark (Donna), and Steve (Jill) Sorg; grandchildren Jeffrey (Samantha) Sorg, Breanna Sorg, Lyndsay (Ryan) Nordmeyer, Jessica Sorg Spencer, Kayla (Damian) Brellenthin, Ashley (Nathan) Angles, Justin (Abby) Sorg, and Keith Sorg; great-grandchildren Alyson, Vance, Raelynn, Jaxon, Oaklee, and Lily; brother Andrew Sorg; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, Anna M. and Andrew Sorg; as well as his loving wife, Shirley Sorg.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church (714 E Walworth Ave, Delavan, WI 53115) followed by a mass at 2 p.m.
