Joyce A. Kane

January 29, 1955 — June 11, 2025

Joyce Ann Kane (nee Hinzpeter) left her earthly body on June 11, 2025 to rejoin her husband, George, in heaven. Joyce was fully selfless for the 70 years she spent with us, always doing wonderfully kind and generous things for her family, and would give the shirt off her back if anyone asked for it. She was always on the move and did not sit still very well.

Joyce was born on January 29, 1955 in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, at 9:41am. She lived in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, for her life. She married her soulmate, mentor, and best friend, George, on November 10, 1973. They traveled, rode motorcycles, tended a farm, and built a life together focused on each other. George worked third shift for much of his career. Joyce was always waiting for him when he got home early in the morning, with breakfast on the table, ready to hear a story or two from his night of work. Their relationship wasn’t always perfect, and there may have been disagreements, but Joyce always told her children that she and George “never go to bed angry.”

Joyce was a stay-at-home mom many years and then worked at the Heavy Duty factory in Lake Geneva. When Joyce would take factory lunch breaks, she often used scrap time card paper to write little notes to her children and husband, tucking them in lunches or coat pockets the next day. Following her time at Heavy Duty, Joyce started her own business as a caregiver. Her clients were very important to her and many of them considered her an extension of their own families.

In retirement, Joyce was happiest as a grandmother. Her grandkids called her “Nama”. Joyce lived for spending time with her grandchildren, and conversely, the children thrived through her. Joyce was always behind the camera documenting everyone else’s fun. She was always focused on creating memories for others. She was a keen advisor of anything that made other people happy, and remembered what each family member liked, and was the first to offer a small gift or item to borrow. Joyce was wise and always gave good advice, sometimes written as a note on her counter. Joyce was famous for writing notes in shorthand (stenographer text), especially Christmas present ideas for her children, who desperately tried to decipher this secret code to figure out what their gifts might be. She frequently reminded her family how much she loved them, and while smaller in stature, she grew to be 10 feet tall if anyone thought about harming her children.

Joyce is survived by her daughters Lisa Miller, Pamela (Brad) Fierst, son Brian (Jana) Kane, and her grandson Gavin and granddaughter Olivia. She is further survived by her lifelong friends and sisters, Joan, Judy, and June, and her mother, Marie. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, brother, William, and father, Albert.

While Joyce’s time on this earth was mostly filled with happiness and being surrounded by family, her last day was chosen by her and was deeply meaningful to her. The kindness and beauty of her true spirit remains with us always, even though her body is no longer of this world.

Joyce recently said, “you all mean the world to me and I love you very much. I pray to God in heaven, to watch over all of you.” In our hearts, Joyce will always be standing at the living room window, waving and smiling as we back down the driveway to head home.
