Lorraine Deloris Frey

Lorraine Deloris Frey passed away quietly in the presence of her family on Monday morning, July 10 at Golden Years of Walworth, Walworth, WI. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roland, in 2007. Growing up as the oldest of nine siblings, much of Lorraine's early life was spent helping with the care of her younger brothers and sisters. While still in her teens, Lorraine was allowed to move to Delavan, Wisconsin to live with her uncle and aunt, Dave and Sarah Peters, and their son, Willis. Her first job after moving to Delavan was as a telephone operator. Lorraine first started attending the Gospel Tabernacle with her uncle and aunt. It was there that Lorraine became attracted to a young man, Roland Frey, initially more for his accordion playing skills, than anything else. But romance soon followed and they were married in 1947. Their first several years of marriage were spent living in a small house on Roland's parents' farm near Como Lake where Roland helped his father in running and managing the farm. After the births of their three children (less than twenty-eight months total between the them), Roland and Lorraine moved to Williams Bay where Roland learned the carpentry trade from their neighbor, Alvin Johnson. To help support the family, Lorraine worked a number of part time jobs through the years. She gained much pleasure from doing a job and doing it well, something she learned from her mother. Lorraine's involvement in music began at the Gospel Tabernacle where she became one of the church organists, a position she held for over thirty years. She also displayed her self-taught skills on the guitar at church on occasion and continued to be involved in a variety of music groups through the years in addition to teaching guitar to students both young and old. This was all accomplished without any formal musical training. Faith, family, and music defined Lorraine's life. Her first love was raising her children and providing a loving home for Roland and her family. She was actively involved in the activities and events of her children through their school years and beyond. With Roland working long hours most days, Lorraine provided much of the instruction, mentoring, discipline, and encouragement to the children during their childhood years. Lorraine deeply cherished the times she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially when they were small enough to hold in her lap. She dearly loved each one of them for who they are and how God has made them. Lorraine's deep faith in Jesus Christ framed her motives and actions, not only with her family, but with friends and neighbors as well. She loved her quiet time with the Lord, whether reading her Bible at home or during an early morning walk along the shores of Lake Geneva or around Yerkes Observatory. Lorraine drew immense pleasure in quietly tending to the needs of others and encouraging folks with her friendship and prayers. Though very public when playing the organ at church, Lorraine much preferred to be behind the scenes, assisting others going through times of difficulty. Her greatest wish was to see her children and grandchildren know Jesus Christ and enjoy His love and presence on a deep personal level. Lorraine's faithful daily prayers on behalf of her family have been such a blessing as are the daily diaries she maintained through the years. Lorraine is survived by one daughter, Cindy (Randy)Tucker of Coweta, Oklahoma; two sons, Wayne (Nancy) Frey of Wheaton, Illinois, and Bernie (Lynn) Frey of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is also survived by two brothers, Melvin and Kenny; two sisters, Nina and Dorothy; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will take place on Friday, July 14th, 2017 at Calvary Community Church, in Williams Bay, Wisconsin (Route 50 and Harris Road) at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be held the same day at Calvary Community Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service.
