Lorraine A. Petersen, age 97, of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2016. She was born on November 17, 1918, Daughter of the late Emil and Agnes Jung. On June 1, 1946 she married Melvin Petersen, the love of her life. He preceded her in death after 62 wonderful years of marriage on December 7, 2008. Lorraine was a long time resident of Lake Geneva and a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir for 42 years. Lorraine loved playing the piano from 5 years of age to well into her 90's. She entertained troops at the Chicago USO during World War II. and played at church, nursing homes and any supper club or home where she could find a piano. She also was an avid tennis player, and would always share her stories about growing up in Chicago and "socking the ball" on the tennis courts. Lorraine and Mel enjoyed northern Wisconsin. They spent many happy summers at their place in Minocqua and later Waupaca. They shared special moments playing tennis, golf, swimming and hiking. Lorraine was known for her colorful phrases such as "holy socks", "thanks for the buzz", and "for John's sake". Lorraine is survived by her Sister Marjorie Abell, Denver, Daughters Jan DeVos (John), Waupaca, Judy Grimmer (Dan), Hortonville, and Son-In-Law Daniel Moore, Chicago. Her grandchildren include Caitlin, Andrew, Sean, Greg and Maddy. She was preceded in death by her Parents, her Husband Mel, her Daughter Barbara, her Sisters Bernice Wolff and Virginia Williams, and her Brother Walter Jung. The funeral service will be held on July 2, 2016 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church located at 700 N. Bloomfield Road in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The service will begin at 10:30 AM at the church with the burial at the Oak Hill Cemetery immediately following it. Many thanks to the staff of Park Vista for the love, respect and the compassion they showed Lorraine during her time there. We also would like to thank Southern Care Hospice for their loving and gentle care for our mother during her last days.
