Madgel Louise Schluga

December 3, 1921 — February 22, 2019

Madgel Louise Schluga (nee: Recknagle) passed away February 22, 2019 in Delevan, Wisconsin at Ridgestone Village. She was the daughter of Carl Recknagle and Dora F. (Bauermann) Recknagle, born December 3, 1921, in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. She was sister to Katherine Springsteen and Irma Sanders, both predeceased. Madgel married the love of her life, Frank F. Schulga, June 6, 1960. They moved to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin where she lived the rest of her life until her illness. He predeceased her in 1967. Madgel was the valedictorian of Elkhorn High School, 1939, also a graduate of The Layton School of Art, Milwaukee. She was a commercial artist in Milwaukee followed by her work as an inspector at Trosel in Lake Geneva until retirement. A supporter and volunteer of the Humane Society, she loved her own rescued dogs and cat. For many years Madgel baked loaves of fruit bread and delivered one to each new visiting family at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lake Geneva. A sharp mind for detail and an extraordinary memory dubbed her the family historian. She never forgot a birthday or special occasion. Always sending a card which arrived on the exact day. She was grateful for help from her neighbors in the Haskin Street area and church members as her health deteriorated and niece Sandra Lee who stepped in as guardian. Survivors include Nieces Sandra (Vern) Lee, Suzanne (George) Graham and their families. Nephews Roger (Rose) Springsteen, Daniel Springsteen and their families as well as Steven Sanders. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Steinke-Lazarczyk Family Funeral Home (515 Center Street, Lake Geneva) on Wednnesday, February 27, 2019 with a service at 11:30 a.m., Pastor Paul VanDeBerg will be officiating.
