Marlene Engel Rydberg

July 31, 1937 — August 14, 2025

Marlene Engel Rydberg, 88, of Waukesha, WI, formerly of Lake Geneva, passed away on August 14, 2025.


She was born July 31, 1937, in South Dakota to the late Harry and Iska Mae (Audiss) Engel. After high school, Marlene worked for Eastern Airlines in Minneapolis before moving to Madison, WI, where she married Marvin Rydberg in 1957. Together they lived in Ames, IA while Marvin completed veterinary school, later settling in Lake Geneva.


Marlene raised five children and later returned to her career as a travel agent. Her love of travel took her around the world, and she delighted in sharing stories of her adventures with her family. Most of all, she cherished being “Gram” to her grandchildren.


She is survived by her husband, Dr. Marvin Rydberg; children Jeff (Stayce Koeppen), Renee (John) Grieco, Dana (Kurt) Pease, Chad (Penny), and Sam (Karen); grandchildren Megan Johnson, Christopher Rydberg, Adam Rydberg, Ben Lamm, Erin Lamm, Samantha Pease, Sydney Pease Morris, and Tylee Rydberg; great-granddaughter Paisley Mae Rydberg; along with extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Connie Schramm and Jackie Novotny.
