Patria T. 'Pat' Moorhouse

Patria "Pat" T. Moorhouse, a Lake Geneva resident for 67 years and the city's premier seamstress, died Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the age of 94. Mrs. Moorhouse operated Pat Moorhouse Custom Tailoring from her home from the 1960s until 2017. During her career, she made hundreds of dresses, altered thousands of pants and was one of the first persons trained to make the famous Playboy bunny costume. Born in 1923 in Mulanay, a city in Quezon Province in the Philippines, she came to the United States in 1951 to marry the late Herbert Moorhouse, a native-born Lake Genevan. They met in Manila in 1945 after the Philippines were liberated from Japanese occupation. Pat worked for the U.S. Army during World War II, where she was cleared to handle classified information. She was a business administration graduate of Far Eastern University (FEU) in Manila. After marrying, the Moorhouses moved to Lake Geneva, where they raised their family of four daughters and a son, all of whom graduated from Badger High School and earned college degrees. Mrs. Moorhouse had numerous hobbies and was active in many organizations in Lake Geneva and Walworth County. As a long-time member of the Wisconsin Friendship Chorus, she traveled throughout Western Europe and cities across the United States entertaining local organizations and church organizations. She and her husband hosted three foreign exchange students, two from Spain and one from the Czech Republic. An accomplished gardener, she regularly shared her large crop of fruits, vegetables and flowers with neighbors and friends. Pat enjoyed volunteering at Denison Grade School where she helped children improve their reading and she was very involved in programs at her church, St. Francis de Sales. Among other activities at St. Francis, she was an usher at the 7:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Moorhouse was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Atnasio Roces Rosales and Fidela Tesalona. She is survived by her children Teresa (Terry) Karow of Arlington Heights, IL, Loretta (Lorry) Nussbaum of Lake Geneva, WI, Karla Moorhouse of Shorewood, WI, Karen (Kim) Iwazaki of Kirkland, WA, Lawrence (Koko) Moorhouse, of Chicago, IL and by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation for Mrs. Moorhouse will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Steinke-Lazarczyk Funeral Home (515 Center St, Lake Geneva, WI) with vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Please meet at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (148 Main St, Lake Geneva, WI) for Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Most Reverend James T. Schuerman officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lake Geneva, WI. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Lake Geneva Food Pantry (First Congregational United Church of Christ, 715 Wisconsin Street, Lake Geneva, WI 53147).
