Paul H. Zich, Jr.

Paul Herbert Zich, age 89, of Salem, Wi. passed away on May 7th, 2025. Paul Jr. was born on June 2nd, 1935 in Chicago, Il. to the late Paul Sr. and Jesse Zich.

Paul moved to Round Lake Beach, IL. at the age of 11, where he was able to get his first dog and attend a one room school. After graduating Grayslake High School, he entered into the draft and served in peacetime for the army and army reserves. After his return, he entered his career At Illinois Bell in 1957, and worked as a telephone and cable repairman. A year later, Paul married the love of his life, Erna Schori, on September 28th, 1958 in Ingleside. They had two children together, Caren and Shari.

He was a very attentive father, and was involved in the Lutheran church. Paul loved to bowl and golf when he wasn’t working so much overtime to support his family. He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears and White Sox. In the 1980’s, his family grew as his daughters married and his beloved grandchildren were born.

After 37 years of working for the phone company, Paul retired and became involved in volunteering at an animal shelter and walked many dogs, Many of them considering him their best friend. Paul was a dog whisperer, and dogs seemed to love him as much as he loved them! He had adopted two dogs in retirement that adored him, Buster and Blackie. After his dogs passed, he became the neighborhood dog walker to Ziva and others. His love for pets was passed to his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Paul loved being with family. His eyes would just light up when seeing his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Erna, and his daughters Caren (Albert) Look and Shari (Thomas Patterson) Morgan. As well as his grandchildren, Jennifer Look-Clarke, Aimie (David) Holbrook-Vaughn, Tamie (Josh) Holbrook-Ridenour, Kelsey (Garrett) Morgan, and Dustin Morgan. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren, sister Bonnie Kuester and brother-in-law Nick (Marcia) Schori.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Jesse Zich, and his grandson, Derek Look.
