Raymond Schober passed away peacefully at Vintage on the Ponds, August 31, 2024, at the age of 97. Ray was an 85 year resident of Lake Como. He moved to Lake Como from Chicago, by himself and with his parents consent, at the ripe old age of 12. He lived at Pete and Em's Resort on the lake, tending the rental row boats and cleaning the bar every morning to earn his keep. Every spare minute he had was fishing, a life long passion, whether it was on Lake of the Woods or Lake Michigan on his beloved boat, the Geneva L.
His parents and brother eventually joined Ray at their Larch Rd Cottage. Ray finished grade school in the one room Como School (after allegedly walking miles through knee deep snow in blizzards to do so!) and graduated from Lake Geneva High School. In 1946, he joined the Marine Corp where one of his duties was guarding famous polar explorer Admiral Byrds offices in Washington DC. Ray had a successful contracting business building many schools, churches, and private homes in the SE WI area. Later in years, he specialized in remodeling several estates around Lake Geneva. Throughout his life, he never lost his enthusiasm for the outdoors. He often took the family camping "up north" in leaky canvas tents; every fall he headed to Manitoba for goose hunting with his faithful Labrador retriever. Ray and his wife Lorraine were married for 68 years. He is survived by his daughter Karen and son Lawrence, grandsons, Peter Sinclair and Joesph Schober, and great-grandchildren Tristian Sinclair and Anaya Schober. Many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews still reside in the Midwest.
Lazarczyk Family Funeral Homes of Lake Geneva is proudly serving the family.
