Rosaura “Roz” Ruiz

March 30, 1928 – February 5, 2025

Rosaura “Roz” Ruiz, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 96.

Born on March 30, 1928, in Chicago. Roz was the fourth of 11 children. She grew up on the Near West Side of Chicago before settling in Johnsburg, IL, in her later years.

On July 3, 1948, Roz married the love of her life, Sal Ruiz. They shared 72 beautiful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and dancing. Their commitment to each other was celebrated with a renewal of their vows at the Cathedral of Saint Peter in Rockford on their 55th wedding anniversary.

Roz was the epitome of class and charm. Her comforting presence always filled time with joy and security. A devoted mother to her two sons, Mitchell and Michael, she also showered her grandchildren with love and attention, always making sure they were well-fed with her amazing cooking. Her famous carrot cake and biscotti, along with countless home-cooked meals, will forever be cherished memories.

Roz enjoyed knitting, reading, and hosting family gatherings, bringing everyone together with her warmth and hospitality. She loved cookouts and family celebrations, and above all, spending time with her family and friends, who were the light of her life.

Roz dedicated her time to volunteering, serving as an election judge, coordinating the local Meals on Wheels program through the YMCA, and lovingly cleaning her church. Her generosity and kindness touched countless lives.

A devout Catholic, Roz's deep faith was evident in her nightly prayers, where she named all her friends and family. Even in her final moments, she prayed for others, always putting them before herself.

Roz’s legacy of love, faith, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.

Roz is survived by her two sons, Mitchell Ruiz and Michael Ruiz; four grandchildren, Vanessa Block, Elliot Ruiz, Hillary Lawson, and Felicia Davis; and six great-grandchildren, Phoenix Higginson, Weston Kitzman, Christian Block, Grayson Block, Autumn Campfield, and Noah Davis. She is also survived by her siblings Rebecca Pofelski, Ben Galaviz, and Bee Swiatek, as well as loving numerous nieces and nephews.
