Sandralee H. Thiele July 15, 1940 - June 17, 2023 Sandralee H. Thiele , 82, of Allens Grove passed away at home on June 17, 2023 surrounded by her children. Sandralee was born on July 15, 1940, in Sheboygan, WI, daughter of Earl F. and Ruth (Warner) DeSombre. She married John D. Thiele on December 17, 1966 in Delavan; he passed on July 23, 1989. She graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1958, UW-Whitewater in 1962 with a Bachelor's Degree and in 1974 with a Master's Degree. She taught Business Education at Delavan-Darien High School from 1962-1969 and 1978-2002. While teaching she coordinated the Work Experience Program, served as FBLA Adviser, and as the Vocational Department Chair. In 1983 she was selected as the Delavan-Darien Foundation Werbel Teacher of the Year and in 1996 was the Wisconsin Business Education Secondary Business Educator. During her teaching career she was very active in the Wisconsin Business Education Association serving 4 years as Treasurer and 12 years as the Membership/Information Processing Officer. In addition, she was on the convention planning committee for ten years and arranged for all the speakers for convention for seven years. She was a charter member of the Tri-County Business Education Association as well as a member of the National Business Education Association and the International Society of Business Educators. Sandy served on the Darien Library Board for over 30 years. She served on the building committee for the new library that materialized in 2002. She volunteered to teach computer classes for ten years to community adults. In 2004 she was awarded the "Trustee of the Year" by the Wisconsin Library Association. She enjoyed bowling for many years until back/hip problems forced her to give up this activity. Over the years, she was secretary/treasurer and president of several bowling leagues as well as serving as a director on the board for the USBC Wal-Roc Bowling Association. She also coached the junior bowling program at Wheeler Lanes for about ten years. Traveling was a big part of Sandralee's life. She was fortunate to attend national and international conventions throughout her teaching career that resulted in her visiting over 25 European countries. Her favorite countries were Ireland, Greece, and Australia. Additionally she enjoyed trips to Kauai every spring and fall and Mexico in February for the past 11 years. She thoroughly enjoyed the day and overnight trips as part of the Senior Travel Club of Walworth County where she had served as secretary and president in addition to serving on many committees. Providing fellowship with other ladies was part of the fun of belonging to the Ladies of Hattitudes Red Hat chapter in Darien. For eleven years their chapter hosted a yearly luncheon for 100 ladies as well as attending many national conventions throughout the USA. Sandralee has been an active member of Christ Episcopal Church, Delavan since 1962. In addition to serving several terms on the church vestry, she served as a lector, chalice bearer, and on outreach, budget, and audit committees. Most recently she was very involved with the Food in a Backpack project providing food bags to elementary school children in the Delavan-Darien Schools. She is survived by her three children Robert (friend LaVonne Horgan) and Thomas (friend Jennifer Wiese) of Delavan and Patricia (Joe Manley) of Princeville, Hawaii; three grandchildren Ryan (Laura) Dahl, Megan (Ross) Heginbottom, and Hannah Manley (friend Brandon Tamsevicius); and three great grandchildren Reese, Logan, and Rowan Dahl. Sandralee was preceded in death by her husband John, her brother Earl W. DeSombre, and her parents. Family and friends may call at Lazarczyk Family Funeral Homes, Betzer Chapel in Delavan (118 South 2nd Street) on Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 4-7 pm. Funeral service will be Friday, June 23, 2023 11 am at Christ Episcopal Church (503 East Walworth Ave) with viewing beginning at 10 am. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial donation may be made to the Darien Public Library, the Delavan Turtle Creek School Food in a Backpack, or a charity of your choice.
