Shirley Mae Hurdis

May 1, 1938 — March 5, 2025

Shirley Mae (Dorn) Hurdis, 86, lifelong resident of Lake Geneva, passed peacefully on March 5, 2025.


Shirley was born in Burlington, WI on May 1, 1938. She was the daughter of the late. Walter and Viola Dorn. On September 27, 1958 she was united in marriage to the late Charles Hurdis for 51 years.


Shirley is survived by her son Brian (Kathleen) Hurdis and daughter Loreen Glass. She was adored by her five grandchildren; Stephanie (Tim) Gromacki, Jacob (Ashley) Glass, Anthony Hurdis, Nicholas (Laura) Glass & Andrew Glass. Shirley was also blessed with four great-grandchildren; Grace and Greta Gromacki, Jordan and Nolan Glass. Shirley is also survived by her brother Roger (Wendy) Dorn and her cousin and best friend Carol Walstedt.


Shirley enjoyed traveling with her late husband Charles and in their retirement spent time with the family at their vacation home in northern Wisconsin. Shirley was a skilled knitter and enjoyed knitting Afghans and personal items for the family. In her later years she became an avid fan of the Milwaukee Brewers in addition to being a long-time season ticket holder of the Green Bay Packers. Shirley was a dedicated mother and homemaker during the school years of her children and subsequently joined her husband working in the office of the family business of Walter Dorn Distributing until their retirement.


Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 12 at 11:am at St Francis DeSales parish in Lake Geneva. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 11 from 5:00-7:00pm at Lazarczyk Funeral Home, 515 Center Street in Lake Geneva. Visitation will also be held from 10:00AM until the time of services at the church. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Aurora Foundation for Health at Home, Hospice Care and Zilber Family Hospice (AdvocateHealth.org) or Time Is Now (TimeIsNowToHelp.org).
