Suzanne Stoneburner (nee Scheibe) died peacefully at her home on February 15, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 79 years old. Suzanne was born on July 21, 1936 in Milwaukee to Earl John Scheibe and Mary Irene Fitzwilliams . As a youth she was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church and graduated from Washington High School in 1954. After high school she attended Carthage College in Carthage, Illinois, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in social work in 1958. Suzanne began her career as a social worker at the Welfare Department in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where she met Franklin Stoneburner. They were married in 1968 and moved to Delavan in 1975, where Suzanne was social worker at Willowfield Nursing Home until her retirement in 2001. Suzanne was a longstanding member of Luther Memorial Church in Delavan, where she taught Sunday School, served on numerous committees and was a member of the weekly bible study. She was an avid reader, animal lover and gardener, and would often spend her time with a book in her hand and a dog on her lap. Upon retirement, she focused her attention on numerous interests including traveling, spending time with friends and volunteer work. She was a member of the Delavan Historical Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Friends of Aram Public Library and various other organizations. She enjoyed volunteering with READS at Darien Elementary School, Telecare, Vintage on the Ponds, tutoring and as a guardian. Suzanne was preceded in death by Franklin in 2014. She is survived by two children; John and Elizabeth (Jerry Roman), grandchildren Samantha and Amanda, and step- grandchildren David and Emily, sister-in-law Dalma Loudon, nephew Steve Loudon (Vikee), niece Mary Loudon, all of Delavan, and cousin George Fitzwilliams of Germantown, WI. Visitation will be held at Betzer's Funeral Home in Delavan from 4pm-7pm on Thursday, February 18th, and from 10am-11am on Friday February 19th at Luther Memorial followed by service and burial.
