Violet S. Ganhs, 94 years old, passed away with family at her side on October 21, 2023, in Delavan, Wisconsin.
She was born October 12, 1929, to Alvin and Evelyn (Marek) Fischer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Violet worked in sales at Gimbles Department Store in Milwaukee until she married her high school classmate, Karl Ganhs, on March 1, 1952. She became a farm wife and homemaker. To this union, three children arrived that kept her busy with their activities. She has served on the Tibbets School PTA, and was instrumental in keeping Agri-Science-FFA programs at the Elkhorn High School. She was really good at making coffee cakes and stolens, which she sold at local craft fairs. She also kept a large garden that the family helped with along with a sweetcorn stand for 12 years in the Millard area. She was a member of the Millard Church, and also enjoyed bidding at the Fur and Feather Auction on ducks at the fair. She liked antiques and was a helper at the Walworth Co. Fair in the antique building for a number of years. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as hearing about their various activities. The grandkids liked playing UNO with her and other card games. Bingo was her favorite to play at the Delavan Health Services with other residents.
She is survived by her three children, Susan (Kenneth) Benning of Ackley, Iowa; David (Brenda) Ganhs of Sharon, Wisconsin; and Jeff (Chris) Ganhs of Lancaster, Kentucky; grandchildren Ryan, Kara, Gina, Matthew, Theresa, Davin, Angela, Katie Sue, Stacey, and Alyssa; as well as 16 great-grandchildren. Violet is also survived by a sister, Lois Darkow, and a nephew.
Those that have passed before her include her husband, Karl, in 2022; her parents; Karl’s parents; brother, Tom and sister-in-law Vern Fischer; brother-in-law, Hank Darkow; and nephews Peter Darkow, Michael Darkow, and Thomas Fischer.
The family will hold a private celebration of life for Violet at a later date. She will be laid to rest with her husband, Karl, at Roselawn Memory Gardens in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
Condolences can be sent to family members, and memorial contributions made to Delavan Health Services (905 E. Geneva St., Delavan, WI 53115) or the Walworth County Fair (P.O. Box 286, Elkhorn, WI 53121).
